Grade 10 trip a first step on Duke of Ed path
|Tuesday, 13 September 2011|
The students were met by a very enthusiastic and energetic group of leaders and they worked with this group throughout their two days at the camp. Various activities were completed over the course of the weekend in order to develop grade cohesion and to provide time for the students to bond and get to know each other. There was also a very large focus on the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards programme and the students completed the first step in earning their Bronze level for the award.
The students participated in a group hike, having to use their orienteering skills to find their lunch, and they improved their canoeing skills in voyageur and tandem canoes on a mini expedition. The evening included a night hike under the stars, with a solo hike option for the students and some small group initiative games.
Overall the trip was a wonderful success for both the teachers and the students who attended. Everyone had a lot of fun and TCS was well represented in a mature and positive way. New friends were made, outdoor skills were developed and the students were motivated and empowered. Hopefully all of these skills will be put to good use in the TCS community as the Grade 10 students emerge as true leaders in our school.
