Sun shines on 29th annual harriers meet
|Thursday, 22 September 2011|
Runners had perfect weather for Trinity College School’s annual cross-country meet on Wednesday, September 21st. More than 1,200 athletes from 70 schools from Ottawa to Timmins took to the Hedney-Geale Trail for the 29th annual event.
For TCS runners, the event is the first opportunity to compete against both public schools and those within our CISAA league. It was an extremely competitive event, including some of the province’s best high school runners, notes Tim White, TCS director of athletics.
The top result for the School came from Grade 9 student Oliver Blecher, who crossed the finish line in sixth place in the Midget boys category. Our top female runner was Ali Parke, finishing 26th in the Midget age group.
“Our runners worked very hard today,” said the TCS coaches, Mr. Steve Patterson, Ms. Renée Hillier and Mrs. Jodie Fisher. “It is the first meet of the season and it was nice to see our ‘veterans’ pick up where they left off last season.” They note that the team has its largest group of new runners in years, many of whom raced for the first time on Wednesday.
Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to keep the event moving smoothly along, and to our runners and coaches for acting as fine ambassadors for TCS.
