Students participate in special Habitat build

A group of Trinity College School students had the chance to participate in a very special build for Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, October 29th.

While students have assisted in Habitat builds in the past, this time there were supporting one of our own TCS staff members – Tammy Kimmerly, assistant manager of the school store. Five students and Kim Vojnov, director of the School’s service learning programme, were thrilled to help Tammy and the other Habitat volunteers work on her new home in Cobourg.

Peter He, Sophie Roberts, Oscar Qin, Jeremy Micheletti and Kyle Ferdinand each donned hard hats and safety glasses, working incredibly hard for the eight-hour duration of the build. The students’ main task was to rip up old flooring, only to find several more layers beneath! They enjoyed learning how to use a variety of hand tools, and had a great time bonding as a group and with Ms. Kimmerly. The yummy treats provided during breaks were also welcome!

Renovations for the home Tammy will share with her two children – Emma and Mathew – began in September and should be completed later this month.

“At the end of the day we left dirty, tired and very, very happy to have helped such a great person!” says Mrs. Vojnov.
