TCS joins the Movember movement!

Shortly before November a number of Trinity College School staff members agreed to grow moustaches for Movember. Each November in Canada and around the world, men are invited to grow moustaches to raise funds and awareness for men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer.

Team “Trinity House” signed up on the official Movember Web site where we created our team and individual fundraising pages. On November 1st, as per the rules, we all began the month clean-shaven. We met and documented this with a photo. Greg Mock (from the School’s information technology services department) stood out as he shaved his customary goatee!

Over the month we tried various moustaches, always staying within the rules by not having any chin hair or connecting the moustache to the side burns. The moustache has to be a free standing entity to qualify. A number of the guys wanted handlebars or the Fu Manchu, although I, for one, never was able to grow the appropriate connectors to make it a feasible option! Associate faculty member John McCracken proved to be a powerhouse, not only in fundraising but in growing a thick and handsome moustache. Other notable efforts came from Alex Willison and Andrew Walker, who was congratulated on completing his “hipster” look. Later in the month, we gathered for another photo, to showcase our efforts.

Now after a month of moustache growth, I know it may be a little hard to say goodbye to our “lip blankets.” We have taken a fair amount of (good-natured) ribbing from staff and students but, more importantly, we have raised over $3,000 for a great cause. Thank you to everyone who took part, and to everyone who donated to support our team. Bring on Movember 2012!
