Terry Fox Run total tops $23,700

The final numbers are in and Trinity College School’s fundraising total for the 2011 Terry Fox Run has reached $23,788.46. Congratulations to staff and students on their efforts to raise money which will help fund research and education in the fight against cancer.

This year, our school was inspired by visits from two very special people in the weeks following the Terry Fox Run, which was held on Friday, September 23rd. During the Lucky 13 harrier meet on September 29th, we were visited by Terry Fox’s sister, Judith Fox-Alder, who is the international run director for the Terry Fox Foundation. Then, on October 11th, retired TCS teacher and cancer survivor Lois Jackson spoke in morning chapel service. Both of these women shared messages of hope and encouraged our community to continue to give as much as possible to help Terry’s dream be realized and put an end to cancer.

Next year, we are honoured to be hosting our Terry Fox Run in memory of a beloved former staff member, the Revd. Peter Hill, who passed away on Christmas Day 2011 after battling cancer. Peter was the chaplain at TCS from 1976-1985, and it was his wish that memorial donations be made to the Terry Fox Foundation. We know that students and staff alike will be inspired by his memory, as well as the stories of family and friends within our community who have been affected by cancer, as we gather for the 2012 Terry Fox Fun next September.
