This past weekend, Trinity College School students heading to Jamaica for their awareness trip during the March Break took part in a briefing weekend at Camp Kawartha, near Lakefield.

Twenty students from TCS and other area high schools learned a lot of background about Jamaica, met with the executive director and founders of Jamaican Self-Help, and also gained insight into what to expect from their trip. The group left Camp Kawartha on Sunday afternoon, impatient to wait the seven weeks until their departure date.

While the March Break trip is set, a few spaces have opened up for the July 3rd-17th Jamaica trip, which is intended for students in Grades 10-12. Students on this trip have an immersed volunteer experience helping young children in inner-city schools, and participate in a great deal of awareness-raising about grassroots community building, and the beauty and culture that is Jamaica. This will count for community service hours for all participants. Interested parties should contact Tucker Barton at tbarton@tcs.on.ca.
