Montreal reception celebrates 145-year tradition
|Friday, 20 January 2012|
A panel of three alumni, covering more than five decades, spoke fondly about their experiences as students and how the School continues to influence their lives. Moderated by Headmaster Stuart Grainger, more than 40 guests consisting of alumni, current parents and prospective families heard remarks from Roy Heenan ’53 P’86, Bill Molson ’71 P’12 and Marc-André Chagnon ’05.
Roy Heenan, a distinguished lawyer, shared his journey to Boulden House from Mexico City and how teacher Birnie Hodgetts inspired an interest in history and later law. All spoke about the lifelong friendships they formed. For example, Roy still enjoys weekly squash games with his old TCS pals and four TCS alumni recently joined his son, Charles Heenan ’86, at his wedding in Edinburgh. For Bill Molson, a leading finance executive, many of his closest friendships were formed on the playing fields and over closed weekends, hiking along Gages Creek. Bill praised the School for recognizing the strengths in his daughter Emma, who will graduate in 2012, and for helping young people to develop critical interpersonal skills. Marc-André Chagnon, who recently finished his M.B.A. and is working with a high tech start up, valued the curiosity and confidence he gained by breaking away from his high school routine in Montreal and coming to TCS. Mastering English, making new friends and playing on a number of great sports teams were all fond memories for Marc-André.
With 18 students from Montreal presently attending TCS, the Montreal-TCS tradition remains strong!
