Day of remembrance at TCS

Students, staff and special guests gathered in the Memorial Chapel on Thursday, November 9th to remember those who gave their lives for our beloved country. A touching moment of the ceremony featured the School's prefects sharing the stories of TCS Old Boys and masters who lost their lives while defending our country. The emotional service was attended by several veterans from our TCS community, including Ken Scott '43, Tony German '42, Jack Goering '43, Ian Tate '41 and Geoff Dale (retired faculty).

A procession led by the chaplain and sacristans, the School choir and our guests of honour, silently walked outside to the Memorial Cross where Father Don Aitchison continued the service. Surrounding the large cross were many smaller crosses bearing the names of Old Boys and TCS staff who gave their lives in service, echoing the words of Headmaster Stuart Grainger as he read the list of those members of our TCS family who made the ultimate sacrifice. TCS Parents' Guild President Jennifer Agnew-Pople laid the traditional wreath at the foot of the cross, and a minute of reflection followed as the strains of the Last Post rang out across campus.

Following the ceremony Junior School students were given the opportunity to meet and thank the veterans and to ask about their experiences during the war.
