Week of celebration wraps up with Junior School Closing Ceremony

Annually, the Junior School takes the opportunity to celebrate all of the students who have contributed to making the year in Boulden House so very special. The traditional Closing Ceremony, held on Thursday, June 15th, was a fitting conclusion to a week of festivities marking the end of the 2016-2017 academic year for our Junior School families.

Leading up to Thursday’s ceremony, class parties were hosted by families for each grade on Monday, June 12th. Thank you to the Wilson, Hartleib, Lane and Bonham-Carter families for welcoming students into their homes for a day of fun!

Our Grade 8 families had a chance to say farewell at the annual graduation dinner on Tuesday, June 13th at Dalewood Golf Club. Special thanks go to our outstanding speakers, Grade 8 students Quinton Gibson and Naomi Larocque, who shared a truly memorable presentation about their time in the Junior School.

On Thursday, the day began with Grade 8 students and Junior School faculty and staff assembling for the annual graduation photo. Rainy weather meant a change of venue to Cirne Commons for this year’s photo, but grey skies couldn’t dampen our students’ smiles.

All of our students and teachers enjoyed a short procession, by grade, to the “Big Top” tent in front of the W.A. Johnson Classroom Block, as the bells of the Memorial Chapel rang out. Family and friends eagerly greeted the students as they entered the tent.

During the ceremony, every student in Grade 5 through Grade 7 received a grade completion certificate. And our Grade 8 graduates received their diplomas, as well as being personally thanked by Head of Junior School Barbara Piccini for their contributions to life in the Junior School. This year’s valedictorian, Graham Hall, provided a wonderful address, and the Tottenham Band performed beautifully throughout the ceremony.

Capping off the day, families to joined Headmaster Stuart Grainger and Mrs. Piccini for refreshments in Cirne Commons, where everyone celebrated the conclusion of an amazing year in the Junior School.

We wish all our families a safe and happy summer, and look forward to the resumption of Junior School classes on Wednesday, September 6th.
