Junior School classes get underway

The second day of the 2017-2018 school year at Trinity College School saw our Junior School students enjoy their first day of classes, while new boarders and returning day students were welcomed to the Senior School on Wednesday, September 6th.

For day students, a highlight was their first house meeting of the year, followed by afternoon outings that provided the students of Wright, Rigby, Orchard and Hodgetts a chance to get to know their housemates and housemasters better.

Our new boarders moved into their residences and had an orientation session that allowed them to tour campus and meet their housemasters and faculty advisors. Following lunch in Osler Hall and a welcome session with members of the shared leadership team, new boarding parents had the opportunity to meet with their child’s housemaster in breakout sessions. The day concluded with a special meeting for new boarding families with Headmaster Stuart Grainger, a barbecue dinner and then parents were invited to The Lodge to join the headmaster for dessert.

Over at Boulden House, our Junior School families started the day bright and early. While students headed into their classrooms, parents were invited to a reception in the assembly room with Ms. Barbara Piccini, head of the Junior School. For students in Grades 5 through 8, it was a busy day of classes and getting to know their classmates, teachers and the campus better, including experiencing their first lunch in Osler Hall!

“I couldn’t have asked for a better beginning to the year: excited and happy parents, along with excitedly nervous students who immediately threw themselves into the life of the school,” says Ms. Piccini. “Already, a number of Grade 8 students have been demonstrating their leadership qualities. The students thoroughly enjoyed Osler Hall and there were gasps of joy as they walked through the new Arnold Massey ’55 Athletic Centre. Both the teachers and the students spoke at the end of the day of the positive and happy atmosphere in all the classes.”
