Local residents enjoy sparkling performances by TCS musicians

Trinity College School students shared their love of music with an appreciative audience as they performed a community service concert the afternoon of February 8th in the Cirne Commons. Nearly 60 student-musicians welcomed guests from local seniors' facilities, including Empire Crossing, Extendicare, Regency Manor, Roseglen Village and Ruth Clarke Activity Centre, as well as elementary students from Beatrice Strong Public School, to enjoy songs guaranteed to “Beat the Blahs!”

The Wind Ensemble, conducted by Mr. Ron Parker, played a wide range of concert repertoire, from Randall Standridge’s ode to the creative process, Imaginarium, to the pop hit Home by Phillip Phillips, and from the Latin inspired Blue Mambo, composed by Michael Sweeney, to the touching Bring Him Home from the musical Les Miserables.

The Trinity Singers were up next, under the direction of Mr. Jeff Biggar, performing a blend of new and old, from Perry Como’s Catch a Falling Star to the 2017 hit Feel It Still by Portugal. The Man.

The concert closed out with Mr. Parker’s Jazz@4 ensemble playing some fun and upbeat tunes, including the swing classic All of Me, Bruno Mars’ Locked Out of Heaven, and Bare Necessities from Disney animated film, The Jungle Book.

Thank you to Ms. Kim Vojnov and the service learning team for helping to organize this special event. It was a wonderful afternoon of performances and a great chance to connect with members of our local community in the shared love of song. It was also an opportunity for our students to get some live playing experience as they head into a busy spring term that includes several events:

  • Community Service Concerts – March 1st, Peterborough Regional Health Centre and Prince of Wales Public School
  • TCS/KPR Jazz Festival – March 5th, morning, Dick and Jane LeVan Theatre
  • Spring Benefit Concert – April 20th, 7:00 p.m., Dick and Jane LeVan Theatre
  • Jazz Night – May 4th, 7:00 p.m., Dick and Jane LeVan Theatre
