A very special Junior School Closing Ceremony

The Junior School wrapped up a week of special events honouring students with the annual Closing Ceremony on Thursday, June 14th. This event was particularly special as it was the final Closing Ceremony for Head of Junior School Barbara Piccini, as well as Junior School Secretary Donna Elder, both of whom will retire at the end of the school year. That said, the focus was very much on the students and celebrating their achievements and contributions to an extraordinary year in the Junior School!

The week began with class parties hosted by families for each grade on Monday, June 11th. The students are very grateful to the Campbell, Viznyak, Lauzon and Mascarin families for welcoming them into their homes for a fun day under sunny skies.

On Tuesday evening, Grade 8 families participated in a meaningful graduation dinner at Dalewood Golf Club. Among the highlights of the evening was the presentation by Grade 8 students Emma Aitchison-Madill and Silas Hodges, who shared many memories of their time in the Junior School.

Thursday dawned bright and sunny, the perfect day for Closing Ceremony. Grade 8 students and Junior School faculty and staff assembled for the annual graduation photo before all of the students and teachers processed by grade to the tent in front of the W.A. Johnson Classroom Block. The bells of the Memorial Chapel rang out, and family and friends cheered, as the students entered the tent.

The Closing Ceremony is an opportunity to recognize each and every student, with those in Grade 5 through Grade 7 receiving a grade completion certificate, and our Grade 8 graduates receiving their diplomas. Each graduating student was personally thanked by Mrs. Piccini for his or her contributions to life in the Junior School. A lovely valedictory address was given by Grade 8 student Bolu Abiola, who spoke of the importance of community and of taking the time to show our gratitude for those who support us on our journey. The Tottenham Band performed beautifully throughout the ceremony, including a special performance of When I’m Gone, which the students dedicated to Mrs. Piccini and Mrs. Elder.

Headmaster Stuart Grainger and Mrs. Piccini then welcomed everyone to join them in The Lodge Garden for refreshments.

We wish all our families a safe and happy summer, and look forward to the resumption of Junior School classes on Wednesday, September 5th.
