93rd Carol Services bring community together in celebration

Candles alight, the Trinity College School community gathered in celebration of the Christmas season for the 93rd annual Carol Services, in the Memorial Chapel on December 15th and 16th.

The service of Nine Lessons and Carols was led by Maj. the Revd. Canon Don Aitchison, with Mr. Randy Mills serving as organist, choir director and bells conductor. The chapel was beautifully decorated for the services thanks to the volunteers of the TCS Parents’ Guild, the property department, and to the many community members who donated poinsettias.

The service takes the congregation on a journey through the foretelling of Christ’s birth through to the visits of the shepherds and wise men. Bible readings are interwoven with traditional carols and, following the lessons, the lights are lowered so that the remainder of the service is conducted by candlelight.

Members of the Chapel Choir and Johnson Ringers rehearsed diligently for the Carol Services. This year’s featured soloists included: Mr. Kristopher Churchill, Fr. Don Aitchison, Ashley Xu, Fan Yang, Ashley Tottenham, Jayden Lefebvre, Diana Srisuk, Acassia Arnaud, Lidan Zheng, Evelyn Maguire, Coco Chan, Tiffany Pan, Roselle Torres, Gemma Varty and Nita Das. Grade 12 student Ben Traugott took the conductor’s baton to lead the choir in And the Glory of the Lord from Handel’s Messiah.

Ms. Pam Dew once again served as coach for the readers, who this year included: Mr. Churchill, Jiyun Yun, Hannah Obomighie, Joel Oketch, Linden Wylie, Kenny Onyeka, Edward Li, Nicole Wang, Wakely Jibb, Gemma Varty, Fan Yang, Aidan Wylie, Natasha Pinto, Joseph White, Alastair Gray and Sophia Bonham-Carter. As is tradition, the headmaster read the ninth and final lesson, which concludes, “…we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

Each evening following the services, families were invited to Osler Hall to enjoy dinner together, prepared by our talented culinary services staff.
