Annual Cureatz tournament celebrates a love of hockey

Blair Keiser '90 & Rick Traugott

The 11th Annual Collin Cureatz ’02 Memorial Shinny Tournament took place on Saturday, January 19th at the Peter Campbell Memorial Rink. The School welcomed over 120 hockey players, including alumni, parents, staff and friends, for this tremendous yearly event.

This tournament and dinner is a chance for the school community to gather in memory of Collin and support the bursary which bears his name, while taking part in a sport he loved.

After 16 total games for the 10 competing teams, this year’s winners were the “B” Champs in the Middleside Division and, in a terrific final game that saw time extended to a three-on-three overtime period, the Poppa Bears defeated the Newcastle Stars to win the competitive division.

After the final game, over 70 players and guests moved to the common room for some light refreshments, then to Osler Hall for a wonderfully delicious sit-down dinner.

Special thanks to the fans and supporters who attended, the Cureatz family and friends of Collin, as well as to the Galpin family for its continued generous sponsorship of the tournament.
