Hunter Scholarship recipients announced

Trinity College School is pleased to announce the recipients of the Hunter Scholarships. The Donald F. Hunter Scholarship and Donald H. Hunter ’67 Scholarship are two merit-based, full-tuition awards presented to promising day students who reside in Durham Region, Peterborough or Northumberland County. Both of this year’s deserving recipients are new students to TCS who will begin their studies in September 2019.

The recipient of the Donald F. Hunter Scholarship for Grade 7 students is Alexander Pickering of Northumberland County. During his interview process at TCS, Alexander displayed a keen desire to contribute to the school community and enthusiasm to embrace all that the Junior School has to offer. As a previous teacher noted, “Alexander’s energy, sense of humour and curious mind are assets in our classroom.” A well-rounded student, Alexander is excited to come to TCS and become a better student, athlete, friend and leader.

The recipient of the Donald H. Hunter ’67 Scholarship for Grade 9 students is Mika Romao Vandepol of Durham Region. Mika is an incredibly thoughtful and self-aware individual, whose work ethic and achievement in academics as well as her positive character will make her a strong role model for her peers. One former teacher described Mika as a “bright, capable student” and a “kind, compassionate, helpful person…who leads by example.” Mika is particularly excited about the different service learning opportunities at TCS, including Week Without Walls, international trips and peer tutoring.

We look forward to welcoming these two exceptional young people to our school community this fall.

Each year, Trinity College School offers need-based bursaries and merit-based scholarships to promising young students, totaling approximately $3 million.

The Donald F. Hunter Scholarship was founded in 1978 by the Hunter family, who have a long and distinguished history at TCS over three generations, with more than 20 alumni connected to the family having attended the School. The current Hunter Scholarship program is aimed at supporting new local students joining the TCS community. These two full-tuition day student awards will extend for the duration of the recipients’ studies at TCS and will then be available for future promising students.
