TCS Renaissance Plan update for spring/summer 2019

With the warmer weather upon us, several projects that are part of the TCS Renaissance Plan will begin or continue in earnest in the coming weeks. We wanted to advise parents of some of these projects and any implications for those who may be visiting campus.

The second phase of our storm and sanitary water line replacement project has already begun and will run until late August. This phase will begin at the corner of Ward Street and Deblaquire Street North, working inward towards Osler Hall. Trenching is currently taking place at the southwest corner of campus but will not extend past Ketchum House until after Speech Day. During the summer months, trenching will also be required running adjacent to the main entrance and extending past W.A. Johnson Block to Brent and Bethune Houses. The affected areas will be barricaded and trenches will be filled in as quickly as possible, however, pedestrians would be best to avoid these areas when work is being done. Some pedestrian detours may be put in place, but again this will not happen until after Speech Day, and any detours will be well signed. Any other disruptions in service, or necessary road or pathway closures, will be publicized in advance.

Following Speech Day, work will also begin on renovations to the washrooms in Bethune House, as well as the construction of a student kitchenette in the housemaster’s study and a third floor study adjacent to the assistant housemaster’s apartment. Access to Bethune House will be limited over the summer months as a result of these and other improvements, which include interior brickwork and fire door replacements.

Also beginning after Speech Day, several enhancements will be made to Ketchum House. This project involves the replacement of the main washroom shower stalls on the second, third and fourth floors, including the residential assistant’s washroom, new ceilings and LED lighting in the hallway of the second and third floors, and the installation of new curtainwall glazing above the main entrance canopy. Access to the Ketchum House dormitory areas will be limited over the summer months.
