Grade 10 students educate peers on health topics

Students in Trinity College School’s Grade 10 Healthy Active Living course presented a “health fair” on Friday, May 10th, sharing information with their peers on a range of topics.

The students have been researching a health topic of their choice within the context of the Ministry of Ontario curriculum expectations, as part of their summative assessment. Their goal was to become an expert on their topic so that they would be able to educate their peers.

The topics included mental health, personal safety, substance use and misuse, healthy sexuality, healthy lifestyles and fitness. A guiding principle was to have the students learn about what they identified as health priorities for them as teenagers.

Each project included a poster board display, an oral presentation and a creative video/infomercial. The displays were set up in the Hawkins Mezzanine on Friday, providing everyone with a chance to see the information and to interact with and ask questions of the student presenters. It was great to see students talking formally and informally in front of the TCS community, as much health knowledge was shared.
