Junior School wraps up year of new beginnings

Trinity College School’s Junior School families marked the end of a year filled with enriching experiences, new friendships and shared memories with a week of fun activities leading up to Closing Ceremony on Thursday, June 13th.

On Monday, June 10th, students were thrilled to spend much of the day enjoying class parties. Our gratitude goes to the Christ, Campbell, Eyesan, Mullins and Couch families for hosting the parties for each grade.

Grade 8 students were in the spotlight on Tuesday, as graduating families took part in a lovely dinner at Dalewood Golf Club. This was a perfect opportunity to look back on each student’s journey through the Junior School, and the evening was capped off by a wonderful presentation by Grade 8 students Alexis Purdy and Peter Hassard.

After a full day of classes on Wednesday, the school year came to a close on Thursday with the Junior School Closing Ceremony. The ceremony has become a beloved TCS tradition and, despite rainy weather, this year’s event was as special as ever. Following the official Grade 8 graduation photo, taken in Cirne Commons, the entire Junior School complement of students and staff processed from the W.A. Johnson Block into the tent, greeted by their family members.

Head of Junior School Jennifer Wyatt welcomed families to this, her inaugural Closing Ceremony. Ms. Wyatt reflected on her first year in the Junior School, and spoke about the importance of taking chances, being courageous and showing gratitude for opportunities.

Among the highlights of the afternoon was the chance to bid farewell to long-time Junior School art and English teacher, Ms. Margaret “Peggy” Poynton. Families were able to show their gratitude for her 18 years of dedication to the students of Boulden House, and Tottenham Band performed beautifully in her honour.

Every student is recognized during Closing Ceremony, as a mark of each student’s unique contribution to life in Boulden House. In addition to the presentation of awards for achievement, leadership and effort, students in Grade 5 through Grade 7 receive a grade completion certificate and Grade 8 graduates receive diplomas. The ceremony also included the introduction of a new award, named for Barbara Winsor Piccini, who retired as head of the Junior School last June.

Grade 8 student Marie-Anne Urrutia presented this year’s valedictory address, reflecting on the many lasting memories created in the Junior School and expressing appreciation on behalf of the graduating class to everyone who has supported them.

The ceremony wrapped up with remarks from Headmaster Stuart Grainger, before families moved into the Davies Student Centre for a reception and lots of photos!

We wish all our families a healthy and happy summer, and look forward to the resumption of Junior School classes on Wednesday, September 4th.
