And they’re off! TCS harrier meet sets the pace

On your mark – get set – go! The competitive harriers season officially got underway as Trinity College School hosted its 37th annual invitational meet on Wednesday, September 18th. This early-season event allows new runners to gain experience and veterans to test their mettle against the daunting challenge of Mount Trinity.

Nearly 700 cross-country runners from around the province were welcomed to campus, with perfect weather providing a beautiful backdrop for the competition.

Leading the pack for TCS was Liam Gibson, who crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 16:29.6 in the Novice boys race. The Novice girls had a successful day, placing seventh overall thanks to strong performances by Valeria Fonseca Ortega (18th), Jasmine Chen (44th), Tian Tian Dong (45th) and Kyra Fingas (60th).

The Senior girls also placed seventh, led by Jaya Sharma in 16th place, along with Charlotte Neal (36th), Loretta Hu (44th) and Rita Han (49th).

Other top performers for TCS were Charlie Wadds, 46th in a packed field of 189 Senior boys; Finlay Schieman placing 19th in the Junior boys race; and Savannah Barker crossing the finish line in 49th spot in the Junior girls run.

Once again, Ottawa’s Glebe Collegiate Institute was the top school overall on the day, followed in order by Thousand Islands Secondary School (Brockville) and St. Michael’s College School from Toronto.

Thank you to the many volunteers who helped the day to run so smoothly. And best wishes to our runners as they take on the rest of the season, building up to the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) Championships at TCS on October 23rd.
