Opening week is all about community
  • Opening week is all about community

The opening week of the 2022-2023 school year at Trinity College School was marked by a renewed feeling of community, and a focus on welcoming students and staff to a culture of care and belonging.

Head of Trinity College School Stuart Grainger described the start of school this way: “The vibe on campus is pure excitement.” While there were the typical beginning of school nerves for many – students, parents and teachers, alike – there was also a great sense of positivity and optimism, he added. “In many ways we all feel like new students and first year teachers this year. As we leave behind more than two years of pandemic restrictions, we feel connected with the opportunity of a fresh start and the prospect of an uninterrupted academic year!”

Throughout the week, activities in both the Junior and Senior Schools were centred on building connections. Junior School students had fun team-building games and thoroughly enjoyed their first “Read and Relax” session, where they curled up with good books and tasty treats.

In the Senior School, Thursday included new boarders moving onto campus and day houses heading off-campus for outings such as trips to the beach, laser tag and treetop trekking. Friday morning was a chance for students to get to know their advisors through meetings and a special lunch, and the afternoon brought the time-honoured tradition of “Ruckus.” Each house held a pep rally to get everyone in the spirit before students rushed through the Centennial Gates to join their housemates in games and activities across campus. Pictionary, limbo contests, name that tune and an obstacle course were among the stations hosted by the school prefects. The day wrapped up with a giant slip ‘n’ slide and frozen treats enjoyed by all.

The weekend was also a busy time for our Senior School students, who enjoyed a house volleyball tournament on Saturday following co-curriculars. Sunday was reserved for boarding house outings, followed by an Evensong chapel service to conclude the week.
