Trinity Reads builds bonds over books
  • Trinity Reads builds bonds over books

One of the key goals of the opening weeks at Trinity College School is to build bonds between students and the adults in the School who will support them on their journeys. To this end, Senior School students and their advisors had the chance to connect over a shared love of reading during the 11th annual Trinity Reads discussions on Tuesday, September 13th.

Held at locations around campus, these informal “book club style” discussions represent the culmination of the Senior School’s summer reading program. Students were allowed to choose any kind of text to read over the summer, from traditional fiction and non-fiction books, to graphic novels, audiobooks, ebooks and more. While students had freedom of choice, they also had access to a list of recommended reads as suggested by students and staff.

At Tuesday’s meetings, advisors relished a chance to foster relationships with their advisees early in the school year, as students and staff alike shared their reading choices and why they enjoyed them (or not!). As always, the student and staff picks represented a huge range of interest in authors and genres. One interesting feature of this year’s summer reading program was the influence of #booktok; many students sought out featured books they had seen reviewed in these short TikTok videos.

To add to the fun, the Senior School library created scratch & win tickets, with dozens of students winning their choice of food-related treats!

As we look ahead to next year’s summer reading program, the Senior School librarians are always eager to hear student book recommendations throughout the year, to help us build our 12th annual Trinity Reads book list!
