Carol Services a time for reflection
  • Carol Services a time for reflection

“Peace and goodwill.” In a world faced with so many challenges, taking a moment to stop and remember our blessings with gratitude has perhaps never felt so important. It was in this spirit that the Trinity College School community gathered to celebrate the 97th Carol Services on December 10th and 11th in the Memorial Chapel.

This was the first in-person presentation of this special event since 2019, a fact which heightened the collective sense of gratitude. Led by TCS Chaplain, the Revd. Canon Don McLean Aitchison, the “Service of Nine Lessons and Carols” reveals the gift of the life of Jesus Christ. The services honour the Anglican heritage of the School, but are also an opportunity for everyone, regardless of faith, to recommit to the shared ideals of peace, love and kindness.

Boarding students and their families gathered for Saturday’s service, while the Sunday service welcomed Junior and Senior School day families as well as a special contingent of former staff members. All were greeted by a beautifully decorated chapel, courtesy of the volunteers of the TCS Parents’ Guild as well as staff of the facilities & information technology department, and donors who generously provided poinsettias in honour and memory of loved ones.

The service itself featured many student readers, coached by Mrs. Pam Dew: Matthew Hassard, Ebun Aziegbemhin, Haoran Wu, Eric Jin, Mimi Grieve, Gabriel Arany-Hoummady, Hannah Bailey, Hannah Bodden, Keefer Carriere, Liam Gibson, Kennedy Adams, Jasmine de Pencier and Silas Hodges.

Readings were complemented with hymns and carols, featuring the Johnson Ringers and Chapel Choir under the direction of Mr. Randy Mills. Click here for a list of the handbell ensemble and choir members who participated in this year’s services.

Thank you to each person who contributed to the services, and to all who attended. It was a truly heart-warming event that reinforced the value of community and of taking time to pause and reflect during the busy holiday season.
