Holiday Reading Challenge is a family affair
  • Holiday Reading Challenge is a family affair

The December Break offers Trinity College School families the chance for some well-deserved downtime, including the opportunity to curl up with a good read. This year’s Holiday Reading Challenge, hosted by the Junior and Senior School libraries, once again allowed students, staff and family members to track their reading between December 16th and January 3rd, with the chance to win prizes.

Overall, 112 participants took part in the challenge, counting each day they read for at least 30 minutes. In the Junior School, 35 students, representing all homeforms, read on a collective 407 days over the course of the challenge, logging at least 12,210 minutes, or 203.5. hours spent reading! The homeform with the most days of reading was Grade 5, with 13 readers and 188 days of reading total. In the Senior School, all grades were represented, with the collective reading total being at least 324 hours. As well, 13 parents and six siblings participated, adding a total of 294 days of reading.

For each day participants read for the 30 minute minimum, their names were entered into a draw for prizes. The winners are:

  • Junior School: Peyton B., Grade 6 (who read every day of the holidays!)
  • Senior School: Aliyah S., Grade 9
  • Staff: Kristen Richardson
  • Family: Lachlan M. (younger brother of Eliza, Grade 5)

It was so great to hear about all the holiday reading and the books exchanged as gifts during the break. If you read at all over the holidays, consider yourself a winner!
