Science students study local ecosystems
  • Science students study local ecosystems

Trinity College School’s Grade 9 Science students had the chance to apply skills learned throughout the year as they took part in a field study trip to the Ganaraska Forest Centre. The trip is a culminating activity in the students’ final unit of the year, “Sustainable Ecosystems.”

The classes were split into two groups, with one group headed to the forest centre on Monday, May 8th and the other making the trip on May 9th.

While there, students worked collaboratively to study local aquatic ecosystems, rolling up their sleeves to collect specimens and conduct tests in both ponds (lentic ecosystems) and streams (lotic ecosystems) to better understand factors such as biodiversity and water quality. This hands-on experience challenges students to put to work the scientific research skills they have been learning, in addition to allowing them to see first-hand the impacts humans can have on the sustainability of ecosystems.

Thank you to our hosts at the Ganaraska Forest Centre.
