Derek A. Smith ’72, Trustee
Derek is a graduate of Trinity College School (1972) and Trinity College, University of Toronto (B.Comm.). He has an executive masters professional director certification from the American College of Corporate Directors. A chartered professional accountant and a certified public accountant (Massachusetts), Derek is managing director of DAS Financial Management Advisory Services, LLC, a financial management advisory firm based in Beverly Farms, Massachusetts.
Derek started his post-graduation involvement with TCS in 1984, when he became an officer of Trinity College School Fund Inc., the School’s American fundraising arm. He has been president of the TCS Fund Inc. since 1992. He was elected a governor of the School in 1992 and a life governor in 2001. In 2005, Derek was elected as a trustee of the School. In 2007, he was appointed treasurer of the Trinity College School Foundation. In 2019, he was awarded the Colin T. Brown ’75 Leadership Medal.
A soccer enthusiast, Derek is treasurer of the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association, serving 170,000 young people in Massachusetts; and a United States Soccer Federation referee. He is past president of the Wenham Historical Association & Museum, Inc. He is a member of the finance committee and the audit committee of the Essex County Community Foundation. He is treasurer of the Patton Homestead, Inc.
Derek, his wife Rebecca and their son Alastair reside in Beverly Farms, Massachusetts.
