Our guest speakers present to our community during a variety of TCS events such as the Mac Campbell Lecture Series, subject specific lectures and other special occasions such as Scholars' Evening.

A graduate of Trinity College School, Lew Cirne ’89 is CEO and founder of New Relic, and has led the company since its beginning in 2008. A passionate product visionary and leader, Lew started New Relic to bring unprecedented visibility into application performance through SaaS. Under Lew’s leadership, New Relic has grown its offering into a full platform, delivering powerful full-stack visibility to enterprises around the world. As the pioneer of modern APM, Lew previously founded Wily Technology and led the company from 1998 to 2006. A developer at heart, Lew started his career with engineering positions at Apple and Hummingbird Ltd. He is a frequent guest lecturer at Stanford and Harvard, speaking on entrepreneurship. Lew also serves on the board of directors at CURE International. He holds an A.B. in computer science from Dartmouth College.

“No excuses, no limits.” That’s the philosophy behind everything that Luca “Lazylegz” Patuelli lives by every day. Born with arthrogryposis, a rare muscle disorder that limits motion in the joints, Luca has never let his condition slow him down. Discovering his passion for breakdancing at the age of 15, Luca created the “ILL-Abilities” crew, a group of dancers who all overcome physical limitations. Interspersing his energetic talks with his unique and unforgettable dance moves, Luca inspires all audiences to get up off their feet and live their dreams.

Luca has competed in some of the world’s biggest dancing events and has been featured on many international programs and networks, including The Ellen Show, America’s Got Talent, Much Music, MBC Korea, CBC, TF1, NBC’s Today Show and much more. He was also featured on hit television show So You Think You Can Dance Canada, where he made it through to the third round of finals week, making history as the first dancer with a disability making it that far in the program. In 2010, Luca headlined and co-directed the “One Inspires All” dance segment at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympic Opening Ceremonies.

Scott Fried is an award-winning international public speaker, HIV/AIDS educator and author. For more than two decades, he has lectured to over a million teenagers and adults in nearly every U.S. state, as well as countries including Israel, England, Canada, Holland and Honduras. He has spoken at over 1,000 colleges and universities, schools, camps, synagogues, churches, youth retreats, prisons, military bases and gatherings of teachers, counselors, and parents. He has received the Collaborative Program of the Year Award at the University of Pittsburgh and the Outstanding Education Event Award at Florida Tech.

He is also the author of three books. If I Grow Up: Talking with Teens about AIDS, Love and Staying Alive, My Invisible Kingdom: Letters From the Secret Lives of Teens, and A Private Midnight: A Teenager’s Scrapbook of Secrets. He has a DVD of his parent lecture entitled, “How to Talk to the Creature in Your Car.” He has been published in numerous periodicals and newspapers and is featured in the books The Five Gifts of Illness: A Reconsideration, Living Proof: Courage in the Face of AIDS, The Faces of AIDS: Lives at the Epicenter and The World is a Narrow Bridge: Stories that Celebrate Hope and Healing.

Event: Grade 11/12 Leadership Workshop

Anthony McLean is a rapper, YouTuber and motivational speaker who has delivered hundreds of presentations across Canada, the U.S. and Australia. He combines powerful teaching, practical strategies and hip hop music for a high-energy presentation that audiences love. Mr. McLean’s favourite topics are leadership, mental health and bullying. As a respected voice in his field, he has appeared as a guest speaker on Breakfast Television, Global Toronto’s Morning Show, CTV News, 680 News and CBC’s Here and Now.

Mr. McLean is also an actor who can be recognized from commercials for Ford, Milk, Tim Horton’s, Sprite, Verizon Wireless and Bell. He hosted the CBC show, The X, and was featured in documentary films Colour Me, SOAR and Rising Above. As for theatre, Mr. McLean tread the boards of the renowned Stratford Festival where he developed a passion for Shakespeare that remains with him to this day.

Prior to all of this, Mr. McLean was the class clown in the back row giving teachers a hard time. His Grade 10 report card read: “Anthony has lots of potential but he’s wasting it cracking jokes for other students.” He now uses that feedback to its full potential by cracking jokes for students, parents and community leaders around the world as he delivers powerful talks on leadership, mental health and bullying.
