Emails from Ecuador 2015:

December 10, 2015

Buenos Dias!

We are so happy to inform you that our work that has been completed in the community of Shuid since our first day on site. We have officially ended our time with our loved community where we completed the sidewalk and added beautiful decor to the building’s exterior. It was difficult to leave due to the life changing connections made with the children of the community, though we were happy to accomplish so much alongside our new amigos.

After a long drive on Wednesday we officially arrived in the Amazon as the sun began to set over the Napo River. Our beautiful lodge is nestled in the heart of the Amazon jungle overlooking what seems to be a painting. We have many new adventures ahead of us here at Minga lodge including a visit to a local cacao farm and even experiencing a spiritual cleansing with a Shamen.

We could not be happier to be here and share this magical place with your family and friends.

Hola family and friends!

We hope this email finds you well. We are writing you from our beautiful lodging overlooking the Ecuadorian highlands called Pircapamba. A place we have come to call home for the past week.

We have been busy working in the community of Shuid and have even just completed the entire sidewalk surrounding the kitchen! With only one day left we are so incredibly impressed with the hard work from all of the students and teachers and can’t wait to see what we are going to complete by the end of tomorrow.

Though, it hasn’t been all hard work! We have had wonderful opportunities to learn more about the culture here in the highlands. Visiting local farms, hearing from hardworking community members and visiting other Free The Children projects, including the girls’ and women’s groups who do artisanal work to provide an extra income for themselves and their families.

We have been having a blast getting our hands dirty alongside our maestro, Segundo, and the other welcoming and strong members of Shuid. It will be sad to leave this community as we have made such amazing connections. Though, we are thrilled to introduce the group to the “lungs of our earth,” the Amazon, early Wednesday morning.

All the best,
Me To We Trips Team

Hola to the family and friends of Trinity College School!

We hope this email finds you well. I am so happy to report that we have an awesome group here with us in Ecuador and are already making lasting memories.

Our first day together in the capital, Quito, was an amazing way to get to know one another and learn more about the incredible country we are calling home for the next two weeks. Starting with a tour of Centro Historico, a UNESCO world heritage site, splashed with colour, the Spanish colonialism still evident since its founding in 1534. Following our tour we had lunch overlooking the city before heading to the Equator! Yes, the Equator, the very centre of our earth!

We are thrilled to inform you of our arrival in Chimborazo on Monday evening after a long day of travel! We headed out early to start our eight-hour drive and after some sleep, good music and incredible views we arrived at our lodging in the heart of the mountains.

On Tuesday morning, we started our journey together by seeing the community of Shuid for the first time. Shuid is where we will be spending the majority of our time volunteering alongside its friendly and hardworking community members. We were greeted by the smiling faces of the many children who attend the completed Free The Children classrooms. We will be working together to complete the kitchen that, when finished, will provide our new friends with nutritious meals to help them focus and succeed in their schooling.

We are truly honoured to have such an amazing group with us and can’t wait to continue on this adventure.

Dear Friends & Family of Trinity College School,

Welcome to the first of our updates from the group's experience in Ecuador!

The group has arrived safely in Quito and met up with our Me to We team, including their facilitators Sandra and Jackie. The journey was long, but everyone seems thrilled to finally be in Ecuador.

After meeting up with their facilitators, the students will be transported to their accommodations where they'll have a quick dinner before heading to bed for the night. Tomorrow they will start their trip by learning about the rich history and culture in Ecuador as they tour Old Quito, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

More updates to come as the group takes part in their Me to We experience in Ecuador. Let the adventure begin!

All the best,
The Me to We Trips Team
