About Our Aptitude Tests

Trinity College School’s admissions office uses Canadian standardized objective tests as one of its tools for evaluating potential TCS students. These tests are neither pass-fail nor competitive. Each applicant’s results are evaluated on the basis of his or her current grade and age.

There are two 30-minute tests. The first part, the verbal battery, deals with knowledge of vocabulary and the ability to use words correctly in sentences. The second part, the quantitative battery, deals with basic mathematical skills; primarily addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. All questions are founded on the basics of mathematics, and no “fancy formulas” are necessary. We also ask the student for a writing sample.

The test results provide a percentile evaluation of the applicant’s verbal and mathematical skills. The applicant should score approximately 300 or more points to be considered for admission. Scholarship applicants should score around 400 points for further consideration. Currently, the test score average of Trinity’s enrolled students is 360. The highest score ever recorded in our tests is 498 points – a perfect score. Ninety percent of all applicants achieve a score of 300 or higher.

The admissions committee also weighs the applicant’s school reports, interview performance, recommendations, and desire to attend Trinity.
