About 18 months ago, CAIS began developing an initiative aimed at raising awareness of boarding. The Collaborative Boarding Project was created to promote boarding as an option for Canadian families and also to make international families more aware of Canada as a boarding school destination for their children. The association’s new Director of Outreach, Sarah Milligan, started determining how schools could best approach emerging international markets in Turkey and Russia. A three-city tour was organized in Turkey, with TCS as one of 12 schools eager to learn more about this country. TCS is proud to have two recent graduates (Ali Civelek ’11 and Isik Oyman ’11) and one current student (Irmak Ural, Grade 12) from Turkey. Both Ali and Isik are currently attending universities in Canada, which was one of the reasons they chose to attend TCS. Over five days in Turkey, Mrs. LaBranche spent time in the cities of Izmir, Ankara and Istanbul, taking part in nine school visits, attending afternoon receptions for prospective families and then conducting interviews with students interested in applying to TCS. In Istanbul, there was a special reception with a representative of the Turkish consulate as well as many principals and programme heads from around the city. The tour concluded with a fair attended by more than 100 students in Istanbul, with the Turkish national news interviewing each school. In the coming weeks, admissions representatives will be in Mexico (Veracruz, Puebla and Mexico City) and the Caribbean (Barbados, Trinidad and Bermuda) to speak with families about TCS. And on Sunday, November 6th, TCS will take part in a virtual fair hosted by TABS, The Association of Boarding Schools (click here to learn more about this online event). |
