Post-secondary visits focus on refining options
  • Students at University of Toronto

For Trinity College School’s Grade 11 students, the process of researching post-secondary institutions has begun in earnest, and one important step was taken on Friday, April 19th when students ventured off-campus to visit Ontario post-secondary institutions.

This spring, students had the option to visit Western University in London; Wilfrid Laurier University in Kitchener-Waterloo; University of Toronto and Toronto Metropolitan University; or Queen’s University in Kingston.

Students took part in campus tours, learning about the facilities and programs at each school, and getting a feel for the culture, size and setting, as well as asking questions of tour guides to get a strong sense of the possible “fit” of the institution for them as individuals.

The post-secondary visits build on research all Grade 11 students undertake during guidance classes, and will serve them well as they look to their Grade 12 year and the process of post-secondary applications.

In the fall, they will once again have the chance to visit a choice of post-secondary campuses in Ontario, but we also encourage families to consider visiting universities and colleges of interest in their own time. The summer months provide a great chance to do this, and many schools offer open houses or the opportunity to book tours through their websites. We encourage students to visit institutions that differ in size, programming, facilities and school culture, as a way to help hone in on what matters most to them.

As always, the guidance office is here to answer questions and provide a sounding board as students consider their lives after TCS and the many pathways open to them.
