Bears tune up for season by hosting Baseball Showcase

Trinity College School’s Bigside baseball players kicked their season into gear by hosted their annual showcase tournament, April 22nd and 23rd. This early season event is a chance to bond as teammates and test out skills against local high school squads, as the Bears look ahead to the CISAA league regular season.

To celebrate Earth Day, the Bears played the greatest game on dirt! TCS faced a challenging St. Mary CSS team from Cobourg, resulting in an 11-1 loss. Despite a strong start, with Will McLean driving in the team’s first run, the Bears struggled to maintain momentum. Will M.’s efforts at the plate were notable, contributing two walks and an RBI. However, on the mound, TCS encountered difficulties, with Will M. conceding four runs in just one inning. Grade 9 student Tristan Craig also faced challenges, yielding two runs across two innings of play. Despite the loss, the team showed discipline at bat, amassing seven walks throughout the game.

On Tuesday, in their second game, the Bears faced Anderson Collegiate (Whitby) in a closely contested match, ultimately falling 7-3 despite collecting five hits. Connor Rodgers took the loss, conceding six runs over two innings (four earned). Aidan Hyslop-Healy led the pitching effort, surrendering one run across four innings of relief. Offensively, the Bears saw contributions from Aidan, Easton Joss, Sam Saturno, Tristan and Will Bingleman, each collecting one hit. Despite a solid hitting performance, TCS couldn't secure the win.

In their third game, the Bears bounced back with an impressive 14-4 victory over Holy Cross CSS (Peterborough). Easton emerged as a standout performer, driving in four runs on three hits, including a home run and a double. The team rallied with eight runs in the third inning, showcasing their offensive prowess. Will B. delivered a solid performance on the mound, surrendering four runs over four innings. Hayden Worden provided one inning of scoreless relief. With a total of 10 hits in the game, including three each from Easton and Will M., TCS secured a convincing win.

TCS looked ahead to their next challenge as they prepared to face UCC on Wednesday, April 24th. Building on their performances in the tournament, the Bears aimed to continue their momentum and secure another victory.

The upcoming 2024 Bigside Baseball Tour will offer an action-packed weekend for the team as they embark on an unforgettable journey to Altoona, Pennsylvania, and the Kiski School. From April 26th to 28th, the players will experience a blend of athletic competition, team bonding and exploration. Highlights of the trip will include:

  • Practice sessions at Altoona HS baseball facility
  • Attending an exciting Altoona Curve (AA) baseball game at Peoples Natural Gas Field
  • Facing off against the Kiski School Junior Varsity team

Alongside the on-field activities, the team will enjoy opportunities for leisure, including dining at the ballpark, bowling and catching a movie. With a schedule designed to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship, this tour will be a memorable experience for all involved.
