Writers & Friends tickets on sale now

Horizons of Friendship’s 17th annual Writers & Friends literary evening is returning to Trinity College School on Sunday, November 13th starting at 3:30 p.m.

This year, the event will feature local literary icon Farley Mowat and author Lawrence Scanlan, both long-timer supporters of Writers & Friends. They will be joined by:

• CBC journalist Melissa Fung (Under an Afghan Sky: A Memoir of Captivity, which chronicles her 2008 kidnapping in Afghanistan);
• Former Fifth Estate host Stevie Cameron (On the Farm: Robert William Pickton and the Tragic Story of Vancouver’s Missing Women, winner of the 2011 Arthur Ellis Award);
• Esquire magazine columnist Stephen Marche (How Shakespeare Changed Everything); and
• Rabindranath Maharaj (The Amazing Absorbing Boy winner of the 2011 Trillium Book Prize and 2011 Toronto Book Award).

In addition to readings and book signings, guests will have dinner with the authors and be treated to music as well as silent and live auctions, including artwork by contributors such as Ron Bolt, Jana Ewart, Alasdair Gillespie, Lola Reid, Alice Van derVennen and ZimArt Rice Lake Studio of African Sculpture.

Writers & Friends supports Horizons of Friendship’s sustainable development efforts in Mexico and Central America, with all proceeds from the event matched up to three-to-one by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
