The service was led by the School’s chaplain, Father Don Aitchison, a Captain in The 48th Highlanders of Canada reserve regiment. We were honoured to welcome guest speaker Lt. Col. Todd Meaker, Area Chaplain, Land Force Central Area (and former chaplain of Ashbury College). He encouraged students to think about how it must have felt for soldiers heading into battle, asking themselves, if they should die, would their sacrifice matter. By gathering to remember them, we are saying that their deaths in the name of freedom and peace continue to matter. Special guests included TCS veterans Ken Scott ’43, Jack Goering ’43 and Geoff Dale (retired master), as well as Old Boys Richard LeSueur ’44, Tim Tottenham ’67 and Peter Goering ’77 and retired teacher Peter Kedwell. Following the chapel service, everyone gathered outside. TCS Parents’ Guild President Brenda Glassco P’05 ’09 ’10 ’13 and prefect Emma Molson laid a wreath at the base of the Memorial Cross, which was also adorned with wooden crosses created by master Charles “Chinny” Scott. As a teacher at TCS, he constructed a cross each time word came of the death of a TCS Old Boy during World War II. Headmaster Stuart Grainger read the names of the TCS war dead from the Book of Remembrance after which the Last Post was played by Grade 11 student Zack Chauvin, followed by a moment of silence. The service concluded with the singing of O Canada. Click here for more photos. |
