The Indigenous National Scholarship Program

The Indigenous National Scholarships are merit-based and include full tuition for the duration of the recipients’ studies at Trinity College School. Each fall, the School welcomes applications for one scholarship for the next academic year.

The Jackman Indigenous National Scholarship was established at Trinity College School by Dr. Eric Jackman '53 in 1986. Dr. Jackman’s vision helped ensure that Canadian Indigenous students were consistently represented in the TCS community, and it is believed to be the first dedicated scholarship of its kind at a Canadian independent school.

Building on that vision, the Price Family Indigenous Scholarship, established by Frances and Tim Price '59 in 2022, and the James Aitken Family Indigenous Scholarship, established by James Aitken '93 in 2022 (with the first bursary to be awarded in 2023), are now creating new and powerful opportunities for Indigenous students to attend TCS on a full scholarship.

These awards will provide full tuition, including ancillary fees, for a boarding or day student of Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) heritage. This program aims to help make the TCS experience available to Indigenous students who demonstrate keenness, motivation, leadership potential and community values.

Eligibility

  • New Canadian student applicant (day or boarding)
  • Indigenous Heritage (First Nations, Métis, Inuit)
  • Preference is given to students entering Grade 9

Award details

  • The scholarship amount is equivalent to 100% of boarding tuition fees. If the need is demonstrated, there may be consideration for an allowance for school-related expenses. (e.g. books/supplies, uniform, laptop, supplemental program costs and travel)

Criteria

  • The award recognizes that Indigenous youth from across Canada may have faced accessibility issues related to academic and co-curricular opportunities. Aside from being mission appropriate for TCS, the award criteria is not based on specific academic, athletic or artistic standards of achievement. The successful candidate will be a deserving student who demonstrates keenness, motivation, leadership potential and strong community values.
