It was a time for cherishing family and friends as Trinity College School celebrated Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th.

While today Valentine’s Day is associated with love, the “Feast of St. Valentine” dates back to commemoration of Christian saints, St. Valentine of Rome or St. Valentine of Terni, both of whom were martyred in the third century.

In the weeks leading up to February 14th, the TCS Parents’ Guild provided community members with the opportunity to order “Valentine Hugs” – packages containing candy, flowers or stuffed animals – to be delivered to students or staff on Tuesday. The Hawkins Mezzanine was filled with excitement as everyone gathered to pick up their tokens of affection, and to make purchases from the bake sale table. Thank you to our parent volunteers for making this special event happen!

For Senior School students, Valentine’s fell in the midst of Spirit Week, with Tuesday designated as “Twin Day.” Students and staff joined in the theme, dressing like a friend or colleague. Shout-out to staff “twins”: Mr. Grainger and Mr. Mills, Ms. O’Grady and Dr. Hodges, and Mr. Keiser and Mr. Ingram!

The Senior School library hosted several fun initiatives around Valentine’s, including card-making, string heart art, and the chance to go on a “Blind Date” with a book (choosing from a selection of books whose covers where hidden by wrapping paper). Fun, literary-theme Valentine’s were displayed on a board in the library.

On Tuesday evening, the prefects led the “My Prefect Valentine” game in Osler Hall, where students were matched with their “true love,” to hilarious results.

In the Junior School, students were thrilled to receive their guild treats on Tuesday, and on Thursday enjoyed dressing in red, white and pink as they took part in the Boulden House Valentine’s celebration. Class parties included games and lots of delicious treats.
