Debaters excel at national competition
  • Junior Debaters

This past weekend, two of Trinity College School’s competitive debaters travelled to Halifax to compete in the Junior National Debate Championships (after qualifying for the tournament at provincials on Sunday, April 14th). We were hosted by fellow CAIS member, Halifax Grammar School, and also had the finals and banquet at the University of King’s College.

TCS debaters Tony W. and Wyatt S. competed against 44 other teams and 88 individuals, representing British Columbia, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and the host province, Nova Scotia. They were accompanied by TCS debate coach, Mr. Greg MacPherson, and faculty associate, Ms. Allyn Whitehead.

As a team, Tony and Wyatt placed 17th overall, and Wyatt was seventh place amongst individual debaters at the national championships!

Please join us in congratulating both Tony and Wyatt. These students not only scored well and debated their hearts out, but were also commended by judges, coaches and other chaperones for their sportsmanship, humbleness and demonstrating the true spirit of debate. Tony and Wyatt represented themselves, the debate team and the TCS community so well.
