Trinity College School’s Caribbean Council put everyone on “Island Time” during their annual dance party the evening of Friday, May 12th.

What is island time? It’s all about relaxing and having fun, celebrating with friends and sharing in the spirit of the islands!

TCS is home to dozens of students from Caribbean nations and they were proud to share their culture with their peers. The energy started to build with a chapel announcement the morning of the event, and kept growing as Islander students had music playing and got students up and dancing in Osler Hall during dinner prior to the dance.

This year’s dance was very special, as it was held outdoors near the beach volleyball courts. Islander leaders Grace Johnson and Alex Chin, along with other eager Caribbean Council students, decorated with flags, beach balls, photo booth items, as well as shark, flamingo and pineapple inflatables. Students gathered early to get covered with bright body and shirt paint from head to toe, and to have their shirts and hats signed by friends.

DJ Wickham, hailing from Barbados, was welcomed back to TCS to play tunes from the islands. He invited students to dance in a big circle, and truly made it a fun-filled time for everyone. In addition to dancing, students were able to lounge in beach chairs, sample island-themed soft drinks and snacks, and play some games of beach volleyball or dominoes.

Our Islander students should be very proud of the hard work they put forth to help the entire community recognize and celebrate Caribbean culture. As we enter the busy final weeks of school, this event was the perfect time to relax and enjoy the “vibe of the Islands.” Thank you also to the various staff departments who helped support the students’ efforts; it was much appreciated!
