Grade 12 students celebrate approaching graduation
  • Grade 12 students celebrate approaching graduation

It was a day devoted to celebrating the upcoming graduation of Trinity College School’s Grade 12 students, as the class of 2023 took part in Grad Fun Day and other traditional annual ceremonies on Tuesday, May 30th.

The day began with a special chapel service, following which the grads were “clapped out” of the Memorial Chapel by staff and students lining the pathway. The procession headed down to the newly-planted “Leaving Class tree,” where a ceremonial ground-breaking ceremony took place. The tree will remain on campus with a plaque denoting it as a tribute to this graduating class.

After chapel, the grads took part in a rehearsal to prepare for Speech Day, the Senior School’s prize giving and graduation ceremony scheduled for June 16th. A final check-in with the guidance team, and then the students were greeted by members of the philanthropy & alumni office, who had a fun afternoon of activities planned.

Grade 12 students were given grad t-shirts which they eagerly had friends sign as they gathered for a barbecue near the beach volleyball courts. While enjoying lunch and some cool treats, students were able to relax or take part in pick-up games of volleyball and Frisbee. Then it was off to the Rainbow Cinemas in Cobourg for a movie.

Returning to campus, students were quick to don their semi-formal wear in preparation for the Grad Soirée. A reception in The Lodge Garden was followed by a special dinner in Osler Hall. There was time for sharing memories and reflections on the students’ time at TCS, and lots of photos!

A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the year chairs for 2023: Oliver Cowan, Silas Hodges and Carmella Ylagan. These soon-to-be alumni were chosen as ambassadors who will help keep the class connected after graduation, organizing reunion events and gathering updates for The TCS News alumni magazine, amongst other important roles.

As the day buses pulled away from LeVan Hall, signifying the end of a busy and meaningful day, our grads recognized that their time at the School is drawing to a close. But their lifelong connection to TCS, to their friends and to the staff who have made a difference in their lives, will always remain.
