Students step up for Terry Fox Run at TCS
  • students preparing to start the Terry Fox Run

The 2023 Terry Fox Run at Trinity College School was a display of student leadership from start to finish! Taking place on Friday, September 22nd, both the Junior and Senior School runs were coordinated by the four Grade 12 Recreation and Health Active Living Leadership classes, with all students as well as many staff members doing their part to walk or run in support of cancer research and education.

Even before run day, the leadership classes were working together to set things in motion, including raising awareness of the run and the fundraising efforts in honour of the 43rd anniversary since Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope began. Terry’s run inspired a movement that has lasted long after his death, carrying on his dream of a world without cancer.

On run day, the students helped facilitate two events: a Junior School run in the early afternoon and a Senior School event later in the afternoon. Many students wore the new Terry Fox t-shirts which were sold as part of the fundraising arm of the event. Some wore stickers indicating the name of the person they were running in honour of.

Prior to the Senior School event, the leadership students gave an educational presentation in Cirne Commons. The students spoke with confidence and clarity in sharing the importance of this day. They also held an interactive and enlightening Kahoot.

With “good weather and good spirits,” participants took to the course. As they walked or ran, they were met with signs bearing trivia and messages of encouragement around the trail, which had been created by the leadership students. The students also created a photo booth and had balloons, freezies and snacks to make for a fun day for everyone involved.

Thus far, the event has raised $1,620, with donations still coming in. You can add your support at https://schools.terryfox.ca/41290.

Thank you to the leadership class students, and to the staff who supported them, for the tremendous efforts put in to coordinating this memorable day – your teamwork, perseverance, community spirit and commitment reflect not only our TCS “habits of heart and mind” but also the ideals of the Terry Fox Foundation and Terry’s legacy.
