Volunteers make Bear Fair a wild success
  • Volunteers working at Bear Fair event

The weather was perfect as the Trinity College School community gathered for Bear Fair, a day of activities for the whole family, hosted by the TCS Parents’ Guild on Saturday, September 23rd.

We cannot say enough about the incredible volunteer support that went into making Bear Fair such a success. From the hours of planning on the part of the guild executive and Bear Fair co-chairs Brooke Mullins & Jennie Horsbrugh-Porter and assistant chair Dawn Labanovich, through the donors who supported the silent auction, bake sale and other events, and right up to the parents, students and staff (including our amazing facilities team!) who gave of their time, this was truly a community-wide effort.

Highlights of the day included the much-appreciated international food sale, made possible by donations from generous families, and the lovely barbecue lunch put on by the culinary services team. Children flocked to the face-painting station, games and the giant inflatable slide! Everyone enjoyed cheering on our TCS teams, including the football and basketball games as well as our annual alumni soccer and field hockey events. The silent auction items donated by TCS families and local businesses made for an amazing selection and the bids were flying, including on the special donation this year of a 15-foot cedar strip canoe, handcrafted by faculty member Ty Bailey and the TCS Woodworking Club.

Whether visitors were purchasing delicious Krispy Kreme donuts or Gibson Farms apples, sampling Nexus Coffee Company beverages or Boba Loka tea, or perusing the options in the student art sale and the book sale, they were greeted with smiling, positive and helpful volunteers each step of the way.

Proceeds are still being tallied from this, the guild’s largest fundraising event of the year. But on the happiness scale, Bear Fair has already surpassed its goal!
