Tom Langford honoured at Toronto Branch Dinner
  • Tom and Cindy Langford

More than 100 alumni, faculty, former faculty and friends of Trinity College School gathered at Hart House on the University of Toronto campus, for the 82nd Annual Toronto Branch Dinner on Wednesday, December 6th.

Following a social reception, everyone was seated for dinner. Toronto Branch President Ryan Conacher '97 toasted the School and then Head of TCS Stuart Grainger gave a response in which he introduced a new football award named after coach, teacher and Head of Orchard House Tom Langford, who will retire at the end of this academic year. The J. Tom Langford Trophy will be given to an individual (coach, player, volunteer, donor, supporter, etc.) who has best exemplified unwavering support and commitment to the TCS football program.

After the main course, Ryan introduced Tom as recipient of this year’s Toronto Branch Medal. The medal is awarded “to someone in recognition of outstanding merit, service to the School, in the field of education or community service. This is to be a top grade award, and the recipient must be fully worthy.”

Major League Baseball player Cal Quantrill '13 sent a heartfelt video from Europe where he shared what Tom had meant to him as a coach and head of house. Faculty member and alumnus Blair Keiser '90 followed with some anecdotes from Tom's 36 years at TCS. Finally, Mr. Langford spoke eloquently about the tremendous people he has met and experiences he has had as part of the community.
